Scrap Material Frayed Bracelet

Okay. I’ll admit it…I’ve always wanted a metal detector. Ever since I was a kid at the beach, I’ve always wanted to find something amazing. I know it looks dorky. I know it seems lame, but c’mon, it’s the closest thing to find treasure I can think of.

For some reason, I have a vague memory of saving up wrappers (Bazooka I think) to buy a metal detector (or was it x-ray glasses?). As you can guess, I never chewed that much gum as I still have a yearning to walk around hovering a large disc over the sand. Maybe if I did that I wouldn’t eat as many potato chips (what is it with the beach and chips).

Anyway, I guess my lame segway into the next project is that you never know what kind of treasures you may find in your scraps of craft things. I found a piece of material buried at the bottom of my craft box and a bunch of plastic bangles. And here you go...

Please excuse the tutorial pictures because for some reason, someone messed with my camera settings and I didn't get clear pictures.

From this picture you can see I found a pretty big piece of material, but actually, you can use smaller scraps for this.

Just cut the pieces in 1 inch strips (I used the length of the material and it was perfect). You’ll need at least 45 inches or so of the strip. If your strips are shorter, knot them together in that very simple, but very strong square knot (right over left, left over right).

Then knot the strip to the bracelet and just tie knots around the bracelet.

When you get to the end, use a needle and thread to secure the ends to the inside of the bracelet.

Wrap 3-4 bracelets individually in knots.

Then bunch them up and with needle and thread, sew the bracelets together (on the inside to hide the thread).

And there you have it. You create your own treasure.
(But don’t be surprised if you find me on the beach with some large clunky earphones on).

  1. Cute bracelet. Also? I want a metal detector SO.BAD. It was a childhood dream of mine, too, and that dream has never gone away.

Thank you for participating in the Creative Therapy Session at Life in the Pitts
